Super Tuscans is a class of Tuscany wines outside DOC/DOCG regulations. Many Super Tuscans are premium high-quality wines. Super Tuscans first came to market in the 1970s because some producers did not want to be restricted by DOC Chianti regulations
(less that 70% Sangiovese, plus over 10% of one of the local white wine grapes). Some of them succeeded and created high-quality wines that rival Chianti.
Super Tuscans often blend grapes several grapes such as Cabarnet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabarnet Franc, and
of-course Sangiovese. Super Tuscans taste ranges from Chianty-like to Bordeaux-like.
